El Capitan Yosemite National Park, California The 3,000’ vertical granite monolith known as El Capitan rises high above Yosemite Valley and a lone ponderosa pine. Favored by climbers, El Capitan typically takes a few days to summit, requiring camping on its sheer cliff face. Often visible are the contrails of aircraft on their way to the San Francisco bay area 150 miles away. |
