Mystery Forest

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

A band of steam fog enshrouds a stand of lodgepole pines that have succumbed to forces of a new, inhospitable soil created from the shifting of nearby hot springs.  The trees have long since drowned from the stagnant layer of mineral-rich water and from the penetration of silica into their roots and trunks.
