A New Beginning Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming Life returns in the ashes of Lodgepole pine that remain upright following a recent wildfire on the eastern shore of Yellowstone Lake. Despite their being destroyed, these trees have a way of sustaining the species, which regenerate as their seeds are released from pinecones under the intense heat of fire. In the summer of 1988, fires burned 36% of Yellowstone’s two million acres, but since then, most forests have grown prolifically. |
