Desert Deadwood

Canyonlands National Park, Utah

A piece of deadwood rests on the red sand of the Needles District within Canyonlands National Park. Deadwood provides an important function for the ecosystem, including providing shelter for insects and small mammals as well as releasing organic matter back into the soil.
