Wolf Lichen Stanislaus National Forest, California A clump of Wolf Lichen grows on from the bark of a ponderosa pine tree in northern California. Native Americans found ritualistic use for the lichen even as a medicinal tea. Europeans, however, had a sinister use for it as a poison against wolves, giving this lichen its name. |
