Mystery Forest Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming A band of steam fog enshrouds a stand of lodgepole pines that have succumbed to forces of a new, inhospitable soil created from the shifting of nearby hot springs. The trees have long since drowned from the stagnant layer of mineral-rich water and from the penetration of silica into their roots and trunks. |
