Autumn Glow Pennwood State Park, Connecticut A maple tree exhibits its fiery orange leaves under a bright autumn sun. As cold weather approaches, to conserve energy trees stop their production of chlorophyll, a chemical that facilitates photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is what makes tree leaves green, which change color in the absence of the chemical. |
