Lupine Meadow Stanislaus National Forest, California Long purple spikes of Lupine fill a meadow in the shadows of towering Ponderosa pines in the Sierra Nevada range. Other flowering plants like the yellow-colored Madia often accompany lupine, which convert nitrogen into ammonia, producing a fertilizer-rich soil that is exploited by other species. |
