Taking Notice

Glacier National Park, Montana

A mountain goat kid observes his mother who enjoys the nutritious glacier lilies below. The largest mammal of this 10,000 foot high habitat, the mountain goat is equipped to handle weather extremes. With the onset of warmer summer months, this goat’s outer layer is beginning to molt, exposing an undercoat of dense wool that will grow into thick coat of protection against winter temperatures exceeding 50 degrees below zero.
