The Anhinga

Bonita Springs, Florida

With an impressive wingspan of up to four feet, an Anihinga bird flies eloquently through the humid Florida air. Anhingas dive underwater to catch their prey, which includes crayfish, shrimp, young alligators and water snakes. The bird’s feathers are not waterproof, enabling them to dive more deeply for prey than other birds that are more buoyant.
