Flying Silhouette

Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah

The silhouette of a hummingbird is frozen against the desert sky. Capable of beating its wings at up to 80 times per second, the hummingbird can fly in any direction and is designed to hover while eating nectar from flowers. The bird uses its long bill to reach deep into flowers for its food.
