Badlands

Badlands National Park, South Dakota

The last rays of a setting sun illuminate one of nature’s contrasts, where vast plains meet heavily-eroded clay formations known as badlands.  These badlands provide a haven for scientists, who study the fossils of past animals including alligator, camel and rhinoceros that used to inhabit an area that now populated with prairie dog, bison and coyote.
