Red Storm

Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming

The Tetons are subject to violent thunderstorms like this one approaching over the northern end of the mountain range and Jackson Lake.  Mountains force air upward, expanding and cooling as it rises and enabling evaporation of surrounding water to form clouds.  If enough moist air ascends, it is eventually released in the form of rain.
