Horseshoe Bend

Glen Canyon, Arizona

Before reaching the Grand Canyon, the 1,450 mile long Colorado River meanders into a horseshoe-shaped bend in northern Arizona.  Over millions of years, the river used its flow capacity of thousands of cubic feet per second to erode the Navajo sandstone into a 1,000-foot-deep canyon.
