The Cascades Crater Lake National Park, Oregon Part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Cascade mountain range is home to all known volcanic eruptions that have occurred in the contiguous United States. One of the older volcanoes, Mount Thielsen rises to a pinnacle of 9,184 feet with Mount Hood looming in the distance. Mount Thielsen is so often hit by lightning that its summit rocks have melted into rare hollow tubes of glass. |
