Aspen Forest

Manti-La Sal National Forest, Utah

Generally growing in cold regions with cool summers in the north, Aspens can survive in the south, but only at higher altitudes like this stand in the mountains above the southern Utah deserts and Canyonlands National Park. Despite living for less than 150 years above ground, Aspens typically grow in colonies with large, inter-connected root systems that can start from only one seedling.
