Soaring Crescent Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Nebraska A male Long-billed Curlew flies sideways over the sand hills of western Nebraska. Here, this largest shorebird in North America comes to breed during late Spring. Both males and females will incubate eggs in nests built right on the ground. The female will abandon the nest within three weeks, but often the pair will breed together the following year. |
