Wading Elk

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

A bull elk wades in the Gibbon River of western Yellowstone National Park. Bull elks may weigh over 1,000 pounds despite a diet of woody vegetation, grasses and lichens. During mating season, bulls will joust their opponents with their huge antlers, which can grow up to five feet wide.
