Crater Lake

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon

In southwestern Oregon, Crater Lake is an obvious reminder of past volcanic forces.  The 1,949-foot-deep lake, formed in the crater of an exploding volcano, is the deepest in the United States and the ninth deepest in the world.  There are no inlets into the lake, which as a result has some of the cleanest water on the continent.
